- New Horizons for Higher Education through e-learning: The recent term rhizomatic learning refers to the collective intelligence and rich user experiences that affect the concept of authority in educational systems. Dave Cormier (Rhizomatic Education: Community as Curriculum) refers to a ?rhizomatic-kn owledge creation process? that is overtaking traditional models. (A rhizomatic plant has no centre and no defined boundary; rather, it is made up of a number of semi-independe nt nodes, each of which is capable of growing and spreading on its own.) The term encapsulates a sort of fluid, transitory concept; the dense, multi-dimensio nal development and integration of several different sets of tools and approaches, appearing in diverse forms under separate settings, using all the multidimension al networking information technology tools, the social web, etc. We should notice that the strength and the weakness of this approach is at the same time, that the content and the competence are legitimated by the collaboration in the networked system.
- What Do We Know About Students? Learning and How Do We Know It?: Telling people what the ?experts? know is not likely to result in the kind of deeper learning that we want to encourage. If we are to take learning seriously, we need to know what to look for (through research), to observe ourselves in the act of lifelong learning (self-reflecti on), and to be much more sensitively aware of the learning of the students that we see before us everyday. At present, I think we are prone to consider research findings as the conclusion of our investigations into learning. We might do better to think of them as the start of our investigations .
